Valentine has met the Commander's daughter, Silvia and falls in love with her. Proteus arrives and falls in love with her too. Julia, pining for Proteus, takes the train west. "The Fighting Days"
29 Apr (Thu) - 8 May (Sat) 2010
Preview April 29th, regular performances begin April 30th - Produced with special arrangement with Playwrights Guild of Canada - By Wendy Lill - Directed by Julia Body. This play, by Winnipeg author Wendy Lill is about the women's suffrage movement in Manitoba and features three well-known personalities: Nellie McClung, suffragist and politician, Lillian Beynon Thomas, author and journalist, and Francis Beynon, women's page editor of the Grain Growers' Guide and the heroine of the play. It isn't often that an audience has the chance to see an historical play that blends political themes with poweful human drama. It is even more rare to find a play inhabited by strong, articulate, three-dimensional female characters. The Fighting Days has all this and more. It is an historian's delight, a director's dream of a larger than life drama and, for the actresses involved, a rare and precious opportunity to delve into the hearts and minds of women who found themselves in the midst of a profound political struggle. - All shows start at 8pm (doors open at 7:30pm) except Sunday May 1 matinee which starts at 1:30pm - No show Monday.
